Description:
Combines supervised, structured on-the-job training along with related theoretical
instruction. Prepares individuals for skilled employment opportunities by conducting
training in bona fide and documented employment settings. The term of electrical
apprenticeship is five years, with a minimum of 8,000 hours on job training and a minimum
of 900 hours of related classroom instruction. Electrical apprentices earn an excellent
wage during the on job training phase of apprenticeship and receive incremental wage
increases throughout the training in accordance with a predefined wage progression
schedule. Participants learn by working directly under the supervision and tutelage of
master electricians in electrical construction. The course curriculum is recognized and
fully accredited by the American Council on Education. Graduates are eligible for
60
college credit semester hours.
Applications:
Applications for electrical apprenticeship opportunities are accepted on Mondays
through Friday,
except normal holidays, from 7:00 AM until 3:30 PM.
Applications are made at the office of IBEW Local Union #1077, which is
located on the second floor of the U.S. Post
Office, Avenue B, Bogalusa, LA. No applications are accepted at the
New Orleans office.
Minimum Requirements:
Applicants must be at least 18 years of age, a high school graduate with a minimum of one
full year of high school algebra with a passing grade, receive a qualifying grade on a
state administered aptitude test, reside within our jurisdictional construction area and
be physically able to perform the work of an electrical apprentice. Advanced placement for
documented previous electrical construction experience will be considered.
